Abstract: This is an ethnographic study which engaged different methods like mapping, tracing and oral histories to decipher different ways that make the project a part of the social, political and economic dynamics of Ndungu. The multidirectional nature of development projects is vivid in the Ndungu Agricultural Development Project which was donated by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency. I aim to highlight how the intentions of the donor project float freely in the unpredictable social, political and economic dynamics of recipient communities, leading to unforeseen consequences in different aspects of life, health and environment. The use of pesticides, health challenges of the farmers and the management of the project will be a focus of this discussion.
